A Population Health Simulation for Community Leaders
April 22, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The purpose of this gathering is to stimulate a conversation about how we can collaboratively focus on the triple aim (clinical quality, service quality, efficiency/value) for the greater Glendale/Foothill community. The exercise itself consists of a computer simulation around a fictitious community called “Friendly Hills”. Teams gather around tables with computers and are given a set of circumstances (prevalence of diseases, demographics, budgets, etc.) and given choices to make about how best to serve the community. Each team consists of people assigned to one of four professional disciplines: physician clinic, employer, health plan (insurer), and hospital. The fun part is that everyone takes roles that they are not familiar with on a day-to-day basis. Each team competes over the course of three rounds for the best outcomes in the triple aim. Of course, in the end, the teams are scored and someone wins!
Our electronic medical record partner, Cerner, developed the simulation and will be facilitating the event on April 22.
Leaders from the Glendale Healthier Community Coalition member organizations, civic leaders, healthcare professionals, employers, and other community leadership will be present.
